Lesson Plan Realia

LESSON PLAN
“VISITING RANCH-REALIA”

Topic              : Teaching vocabulary through speaking (using Realia)–Visiting Ranch
Description     : This is speaking activity combined with realia. This activity encourages the
                          students to be able to speak about what people do in a ranch (the jobs ina ranch)
Level               : Beginner
Aim/objectives: Students practice oral fluency talking about jobs in a ranch
Duration         : Approximately 1 hour
Materials        :Flash cards (The pictures of jobs in the ranch)
Lang. point    : “What is he/she doing? He or she is …”
Procedures     :
8.05    Teacher shows a picture of ranch and patch it on the wall
8.10    Teacher asks the students about what is ranch, and what the people do in ranch
8.20    Teacher distributes cards (picture cards and cards contain name of professions) to the students. Each student receives one card (the picture or the name of profession)
8.25    Teacher asks the students to find the card which is suitable with the card they have in their hand, for example; if he/she has a picture card of a cowboy, so he/she must find friend who has a card contains name of profession of cowboy)
8.30    Each group come forward and patch cards they have on the wall.
8.35    Teacher gives example how to say the sentences correctly, and the students repeat after the teacher in correct way too.
8.45    Each group make a demonstration by using a picture card they got before (one student shows a picture card and asks about “What is he/she doing?” and the other replies about the job)
9.00    Class dismissed
Variations        : If the teacher has a documentary about life or situation in the ranch, the teacher
                          can use it as a warmer before the teacher goes to the main activities. The benefit
                          of using documentary to give the students about general description about the
                          ranch itself.
